A stone staircase leads up the hill from the canoe landing to the rest of this heavily visited campsite. The campsite is close to the Stairway Portage so there will be plenty of canoe traffic going by. You will likely hear voices coming from the area around Rose Falls. Rose Falls is easily heard from this campsite and the sound of the falling water can provide some white noise. The campsite has a so-so canoe landing at the base of the stairs. Lot of rocks. There are at least three tent pads, but at least two of them have a good number of roots sticking out of them. Fire grate is well placed with good seating and great views of Rose Lake. Campsite has some blowdown damage, but that means there is plenty of firewood.
Rock staircase leading down to the water.
Shoreline has lots of boulders, so the landing isn't great.
Large tent pad. This is probably the best one at this campsite.
You can see the roots sticking out of this tent pad.
The seating area around the firepit faces to the east. The kitchen is right on the edge of a raised ledge overlooking the lake.
Another view of the kitchen looking in the direction of the lake.
Another somewhat lumpy tent pad.
The faded latrine is positioned well back in the woods. This one gets a lot of use.
Eastern view.
This is looking in the direction of the Stairway Portage landing. Notice the people standing at the landing (just right of center).
The top of that cliff just right of center is the location of an overlook along the Border Route Trail. This view is to the southeast.
