Portaging Direction: From Allen Lake to Horseshoe Lake

Allen Lake to Horseshoe Lake Portage 1
During low water, you will have to thread your canoe through a boulder field to reach the landing. During high water you can probably paddle right up to where this photo was taken from.

Portage is close to flat, but it has lots of boulders and rocks to skip over.

Allen Lake to Horseshoe Lake Portage 2
Boulder strewn landing at Horseshoe Lake. Might need to get your feet wet, especially in a solo canoe.

Allen Lake to Horseshoe Lake Portage 3
Tough landing with all the rocks. Fortunately water is not too deep.

Very little change in elevation, but there be many, many boulder fields to thread your way through along this portage.

Allen Lake to Horseshoe Lake Portage 4
If water levels are low (typical of late summer), you will have to walk your canoe out into the lake a ways to find water deep enough for it to float and avoid the rock hazards lying beneath the surface.

Now that you've made it over the portage, visit: ALLEN LAKE
