The Portage between Jake Lake and Vista Lake

Portaging Direction: From Jake Lake to Vista Lake

Jake Lake to Vista Lake 1
A bit of rubble at the landing. Shin deep water with a mostly firm bottom. Not a bad landing.

Relatively flat portage. A few rocks to stub your boot on. Mildly brushy in spots.

Jake Lake to Vista Lake 2
Landing on this end is similar to the other end. Slightly muddy bottom, but solid enough. A few rocks to add a fresh ding or two to the canoe. Overall about middle of the road as far as BWCA portage landings go.

Portaging Direction: From Vista Lake to Jake Lake

Jake Lake to Vista Lake 3
As you can see the water isn't that deep, but there are a few boulders. The portage is way at the back of this bay just before the marsh (visible on right) begins.

About as close to a flat portage as you are gonna get. A few rocks along the path to keep an eye out for so you don't trip .

Jake Lake to Vista Lake 4
Portage is at the back of this shallow bay. There are lots of small rocks. Bottom is slightly silty. Depth is trivial. Good landing in these parts.

Now that you've made it over the portage, visit: JAKE LAKE
