The Portage between the Kawishiwi River and Square Lake

Portaging Direction: From Square Lake to the Kawishiwi River (downstream direction)

Rocks provide minor obstacles. Water is of trivial depth.

A very heavily traveled portage. Downhill a little bit as you reach the river end.

Just plop the canoe into the well worn grove and shove off.

Portaging Direction: From Kawishiwi River to Square Lake (upstream direction)

A look at the portage landing. Easy.

Small climb up the short hill from the river and then just a level walk to Square Lake. So short, you'll barely notice those heavy packs on this one.

A few rocks on this end. Once out of this little bay, you'll probably head left following the east shoreline of Square Lake, to get back into the Kawishiwi River. View is to the west.
