Hubbub Lake

Gunflint Ranger District

Can only imagine that some old timer saw this lake and exclaimed "What's all the Hubbub about?" given the lakes small size and shallow basin.

Hubbub Lake is a pass through lake taking less than five minutes to go from portage to portage. Each of the lakes ends is covered by marsh, with the western end having a more extensive boggy area.

The portage from Hubbub Lake to Tuscarora Lake is interesting. If you are using an older map, it may be shown as a single 255 rod portage. It is now two 125 rod portages split by a short paddle across Howl Lake (also known as Howl Swamp). The boardwalk that allowed you to portage across the Howl Swamp was removed sometime before 2006, making the single long portage into two medium length portages.

There seems to have been an old platform constructed of logs at the Copper Lake portage. It is visible just under the water from that portage landing.

Hubbub Lake drains to the northeast through a brook that leads to Snipe Lake.
