Portaging Direction: From Bingshick Lake to Chub River

Bingshick-Chub River-Portage 1
This portage is a bit hard to find, so this is a view of the area where the portage is location, from a little ways out on the lake. The portage is actually in the little inlet just right of the middle of your view, near the left end of that big table rock on your right.

The portage starts in this small inlet. Pull up your canoe on that table rock that you can just see behind the grass/brush in the lower right of your view.

This portage is short and downhill from Bingshick Lake to the Chub River. In fact, it is down a small waterfall. Once the portage starts its downhill descent, the trail becomes a creek (or the creek becomes a trail). Either way, you just walk in the creek until you reach the Chub River.

*No sound in this video because the camera was overheating* Portaging down the "trail turned creek" from Bingshick Lake to the Chub River. Bingshick Lake water level has been raised substantially by beaver activity in the area. Even though you are walking in water along most of the portage, it is still fairly good footing. One of the more interesting portages you'll come across in the BWCA.

View of the canoe landing on the Chub River end. Not much dry area in which to set down your gear. Footing is good in Chub Creek. Notice the portage trail is a creek at your feet.

From the end of the portage, go to the right to make your way over to the Flying Lake portage.

Now that you've made it over the portage, visit: CHUB RIVER

Portaging Direction: From Chub River to Bingshick Lake

NO SOUND DUE TO CAMERA ISSUES. This portage is mostly uphill from the Chub River to Bingshick Lake. Just walk in the creek, as it is now the portage trail. Head right up the little waterfall and stay to your left. The canoe landing on Bingshick Lake is in a small inlet marked by a large tabular rock slab.

The inlet comes in at the base of that smooth rock in front of you. A poor landing. Just wedge your canoe in between the bushes and boulders in the little inlet to make yourself steady.

Now that you've made it over the portage, visit: BINGSHICK LAKE
