The Portage between Winchell Lake and Wanihigan Lake
Portaging Direction: From Winchell Lake to Wanihigan Lake
Rather rocky landing on Winchell Lake end of this portage.
This short portage trail is rocky. It parallels a creek. The portage is on the west side of the creek. During periods of high water, this creek flows cheerily amongst the rocks. During low water, the creek bed is mostly dry. Also if the water is low, the landing on the Wanihigan Lake end of this portage is more difficult because the water is so shallow as to make navigating up to the portage landing difficult. The area becomes choked with logs and rocks. You may have to get out and push.
During low water, like you see here, you may have to get out of your canoe to make it that last few feet to shore. Notice the logs and rocks blocking the portage landing. This image was taken when the water was low.

Portaging Direction: From Wanihigan Lake to Winchell Lake
If the water is low (like you see here), you may have to walk in the water the last few yards to the portage landing. This is because there is a lot of debris in the water, like logs. Lots of rocks too.
Brief, but rocky portage. Landing on the Wanihigan Lake end can be difficult during periods of low water. The landing on Winchell Lake is rocky. The portage is on the west side of the little creek that connects the two lakes.
