The body of water to the north of Mulligan Lake is often referred to as (Grassy) Lake or (Grassy) Creek. In actuality, it's unnamed. It is 'grassy' though! The real Grassy Lake lies about a mile to the west and is not along a portage route.
If (Grassy) Lake has really low water levels, the portage between Mulligan Lake and Wanihigan Lake turns into somewhat of an ordeal, becoming a roughly 290 rod portage. It is otherwise a 40 rod portage, then a brief paddle, followed by a 185 rod portage. The section that is paddled during high water becomes a muddy mess of a 65 rod portage during low water. Add the 40 rod portage plus the 65 rod portage (muddy mess) and the 185 rod portage and you get about 290 rods of portaging if water levels are really low.
Mulligan Lake is quite deep for it's acreage. The lake was once stocked with brook trout. It only holds northern pike now.
