MIDDLE CONE LAKE CAMPSITE:
Campsite 1: (#933) - Only campsite on the lake and its located on the west shoreline
On older maps, this lake was sometimes referred to as Mid Cone Lake.
A logging camp that contained at least four structures was once located on the western shoreline of the lake, a short distance up the long north arm. This is about 700 feet north of the present location of BWCA Campsite 933. The GPS coordinates for the camp are: 47.96792,-90.69071. An old logging road ran along the west shoreline of the lake. It passed through the campsite and reached the former logging camp. Some evidence of the road still remains. The camp was in operation by the summer of 1929 (Heinselman). The camp number is unclear, but it was either Camp # 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8. Logging operations occurred in this area from 1929 to 1931. A large forest fire, the Great Depression and heart rot in the large white pines in the area brought an early end to these operations.
Water flows through this lake from north to south.
